What is a .VMX file?
The most common data format on the web.
A VMX file is the configuration file for a VMware virtual machine, a small plain-text file that defines the VM's virtual hardware (CPU, RAM, disks, network). Open it in VMware Workstation (Windows/Linux) or VMware Fusion (Mac), both free for personal use since 2024. The VMX holds no OS or data; the disk is in a separate .vmdk file.
